HISTORY OF ID NURSERY

Inland Desert Nursery, Inc., a family owned and operated business, is dedicated to supplying the grape industry with superior quality vines. Established in 1963, Inland Desert has steadily molded a reputation for the highest grade plants nationwide.

Tom C. Judkins Jr., our founder and president, first began taking grape cuttings in his high school FFA class in Prosser, Washington. Over 40 years ago he was cutting, callusing, planting and caring for a modest two acres of Concord starts as a teenager in the pasture behind his parent’s home. The pride he felt delivering the product of his year-long efforts to satisfied customers convinced him to turn a one year project into an annual campaign. However, the Vietnam War put a halt to his plans, and after being drafted, he sold his tractor, truck and equipment and served proudly in our military overseas.

After returning two years later from the Service, he picked up right where he left off. His love for the fields, and what he today refers to as “Spring Fever,” launched his efforts more vigorously than ever. With the support of the late Dr. Walter Clore (known fondly as the father of Washington Viticulture), Mr. Judkins joined the State Certification Program, and established some of the first mother-blocks in Washington.

Though beginning as a means necessary to fill the tank of his Dodge Coronet 500, the nursery’s success quickly began supporting much more responsible habits—Tom’s family and future. His eye for potential, hard work ethic and desire to please customers are the qualities that have made our business a success. Our reputation speaks for itself, and it’s our mission to continue delivering the best vines available to our customers. Although Mr. Judkins cannot tend to every grapevine the way he did in high school, he has passed on his high expectations for quality and customer satisfaction to his two sons, a daughter, and a dependable, dedicated crew of more than 30 employees working year-around to ensure excellence. Never have we encountered a project too large or small.

For over 40 years we have delivered a quality product and always stood behind our vines. We invite you, the customer, to share in this experience. We know you won’t be disappointed.
